MUMBAI COPS TO BE EQUIPPED WITH BODY CAMERAS

USE OF TECHNOLOGY-

With the improvement in technologies, the Police Department in the country is also equipping itself with the latest technologies.

In the previous year, the former chief minister of Maharashtra Devendra Fadnavis announced that the Maharashtra Police Department will be provided with body cameras.

Recently it has been announced that the police Department in Mumbai will be given 1388 body cameras. The body cameras are not yet distributed among the Police officials.

There are 34 traffic divisions in Mumbai and each division will be provided with at least 30 body cameras. The divisions might get more or less of the body cameras depending upon the traffic load in these divisions.

These body cameras will be to ensure the safety of the police officials. There are many incidents that occurred where the police officials were physically harmed. Using such cameras will ensure that the safety of the Police Department is always maintained. These cameras will be used against violators.

  • The camera needs to be installed on the chest button of the Uniform.
  • The body camera weighs around 85 grams.
  • The camera records videos of HD quality and has the feature of night vision.
  • The battery life of the camera lasts for 10 hours.
  • It can store up to 10 hours of footage.

The usage of the camera completely depends on the police officer wearing it. They can either record 10-hour long footage or can switch between multiple videos.

“We are yet to distribute the body cameras to our men but are expecting it to start in 10 days’ time. They will be distributed on the basis of how traffic-heavy a particular traffic division is. Minimum 30 cameras will be provided to each division,” added Thakur.
